T-Mobile will remove the Sidekick line, starting May 2011

Published by Garrett at 7:54 AM under Technology

Deutsche Telekom, the owner of T-Mobile, has announced through a press release that it will remove the Sidekick line, effective May 31, 2011. This comes as a surprise to clients in the US, as there are a few thousands of Sidekick users throughout the country.

Danger Incorporated will not be providing data services on Sidekick devices after May 31, but T-Mobile promises to offer an alternative plan to customers before this date. Also, T-Mobile will provide some offers for new devices to Danger Hiptop (better known as Sidekick) users, in order to make the transition as easy as possible. T-Mobile apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and is ready to help customers as much as they are able to.

Due to recent glitches in the Danger Hiptop systems that discontinued the provision of data services to Sidekick users, T-Mobile has decided to put an end to the Sidekick line and terminate their contracts with Danger, a subsidiary of Microsoft. Top management believes this termination is all for the best, because they are bound to offer nothing less than the best quality of service to their customers and anything less is unacceptable and considered a loss to the company.

Usually, when such a decision is made, the company has a backup plan that will ensure the loss is minimal. T-Mobile has advertised this change as being for the best and has introduced new prepaid and postpaid packages in order to compensate for those offers that they are forced to remove.

T-Mobile will introduce new international data plans in 2011

Published by Garrett at 7:45 AM under Technology

Deutsche Telekom has gone through some serious changes during the past months. By renouncing the Sidekick line and pulling off the market some of the offers they had, they left us with the impression that they were being left behind by the other big operators on the market.

But things are starting to move upwards, as the phone company will bring in two new data plans that will provide cheaper international calls. Starting March 13 2011, T-Mobile will introduce two prepaid monthly rate plans that will please even the most pretentious of users. The first plan is the $60 International Unlimited Talk & Text plan, which in addition to the unlimited international calls will also include 100MB of data. As for the $80 International Unlimited Talk & Text plan, this amazing offer comes with 2GB of data and unlimited minutes for international use.

These offers are among the best on the market as far as price to benefit is concerned ; T-Mobile has aimed for the best deal they could provide. A strong advertising campaign, alongside the good reputation of this particular provider will definitely bring T-Mobile back among the “big” players on the mobile services market. As a result, revenues are expected to increase in 2011 compared to 2010.

The changes T-Mobile decided to make are both for the well-being of the customers and the benefit of the company and they will surely increase the fidelity of their users and bring new subscribers, increasing the company’s popularity as well as their market share.

Smartphones to Grow more In-Demand in the US by the end of 2011

Published by Garrett at 7:32 AM under Technology

Share

Last August 2010, the Nielsen Group reported that the US market shares of multipurpose Smartphones have increased from 23 percent from the first quarter of the said year to 25 percent prior to when the report was released. In addition, it was also concluded that by the end of 2011, Smartphones are expected to overtake the mobile market share in the US market.

Who would have thought that in a few years since the Palm was released, that it would be overtaken in the currently sizzling gadgetry scene? And that Microsoft, Google and Apple would continuously make headlines? In another report, which dates back to March 2010, it was said while only 21 percent of mobile users carried Smartphones, the mobile market was  a very dynamic one with constant changes and varying trends. With the overall growth of sales (noted within six months) reaching 29 percent—and 45 percent of mobile users (respondents to the survey conducted by The Nielsen Group) stating that they’ll definitely be moving from their feature phones to Smartphones—the growth of Smartphones in the US market will definitely grow more rapidly. There will definitely be an explosion of Smartphones as predicted, by the end of 2011.

At present, the growing demand for having an all-purpose Smartphone has had mobile providers engaged in a serious mobile warfare. This may seem a bit confusing especially since every Smartphone (regardless of their manufacturer) seems to share a common hardware design. Yes, each Smartphone has touch screens, at least 512 MB of memory capacity, supports Wi-Fi and can connect and download from the internet. The differences, however, are in their operating system; especially since each is designed to cater to a certain sector in the society (such as BlackBerry which appeals more to those in the business arena). Today’s top mobile phone providers are Google Android, Apple, BlackBerry and Microsoft. They top the charts of the most purchased phones attracting more costumers every month. With the stiff competition, and the expected Smartphone explosion, these four face at hand the challenge of surpassing not only the competition but their previous releases as well.

Although each mobile provider has designed their phones in such a way that it caters to a specific sector, their positions can still be swayed. Take for example BlackBerry and Apple’s iPhone: BlackBerry may be a favorite in the business community (especially with its emailing prowess), however the new Smartphone releases seem to be providing consumers with an alternative way of being connected 24/7. On the other hand, iPhones remain in-demand and are the most appealing Smartphones; however, there was a time when its marketability was surpassed by the newbie Android. It is good to report though that for those who are planning to switch from their feature phones to Smartphones loyalty to their phone providers is maintained with more than three-fourths of the surveyed Smartphone respondents stating that they would still purchase from their feature phone providers.

The US market share of Smartphones is becoming undeniably bigger, thanks to more enhanced model releases which offers advanced features (especially when it comes to connecting to the internet faster). And while even the ratio of male Smartphone subscribers to female is also being talked about (more males using Smartphones compared to women), phone manufacturers promise their customers with more functionality with every new smartphone release.

Android on the Rise: Top Features that Make Android a Crowd Pleaser

Published by Garrett at 2:53 PM under Cell Phone

The battle for mobile supremacy is being fought hard. Smartphones are selling like hotcakes and people’s preferences for these gadgets are becoming more specific. While the iPhone is still the most desired Smartphone—and BlackBerry a consistent favorite among those in the business arena—the Android is remarkably gaining audiences of its own with a US market share growth from 2.8 percent in 2009 to 7.1 percent during the first quarter of 2010.

The Android’s rise has been very noticeable. It has shown great expansion in shares among its subscribers, beating Apple’s iOS. Although some of the initial interest might be attributable to its novelty status, its penetration in the market is something that other mobile providers were not able to achieve during their first months.

So what’s making Android such a big hit? If the iPhone appealed more to the younger generation (making them “cool” with the “in-crowd”), and BlackBerry catered to the business demographic more (making them “superior” in meeting work tasks), the Android can be considered as the “crème de la crème” in today’s Smartphone battle. It has presented itself as a flexible gadget able to deliver great performance in both helping users keep up with their work and doling out loads of fun.

From form to function, Android phones are certainly making a mark in mobile phone history. With features that meet both work and fun it has definitely become a crowd favorite. Here are the Android’s top features that make it “The Smartphone to own”.

Audio and Video

Who wouldn’t want to try Android’s Advance Music Player? People just love listening to their favorite tracks or watching their favorite shows wherever they are. Android gives its users enhanced audio and video quality with its Advance Music Player. Keeping memories is more enjoyable with audio and video editing. This Android application provides users with the advantage of ensuring that the videos they take are well presented with good quality sound and synchronization.

Connectivity

The Android ensures has Remote Desktop and Google Documents integration features. Remote Desktop, allows Android users to access their office computers even when they are not in-site. Google Documents Integration on the other hand presents workers, who are always on the go, a way to accomplish their work easily via their mobile phones (a great way of saving them from the hassle of tagging along files with them).

Tracking and Mapping

Tracking is an application found in Android 3.0. It allows tracking of families’ and friends’ mobile phones using a computer. However, to be able to track down people we know, this feature requires their permission to make them visible on maps. Speaking of maps, the Android’s GPS application has been improved. It gives better Google Maps accessibility—a very useful tool for those who love traveling a lot.

The Android Market

In purchasing phones, the applications are one of the first things that consumers usually look out for. When it comes to this the Android is a sure winner. The Android Market presently has about 150,000 applications in their market. It offers applications that are great for work or play. The best thing about the Android Market is its money-back offer once users wish to uninstall the applications they just purchased.
