Many customers are amazed or even dazzled by the outstanding innovation in the cellular phone and smartphone technology. They have become quite accustomed to the confusing and often dizzying changes of this rapidly evolving technology. They ponder about this fact and ask themselves “Do we really know “anything” and are we really coping with it?” In fact, the “anything”, most often means: my own cellular phone or future prospect in the cell phone world! This is the sad truth, and the drastic drop in mobile phone sales is a bad omen for the cell phone industry. But not to worry, there’s still a bright ray of hope for our awesome cellular phones! We are here to tell you about the current sales of cell phones on the American market.

The declining cell phone sales have made manufacturers stop and rethink their selling strategies and publicity stunts. Their oppressive deals and promotions no longer have the same impact on their clientele. Nowadays, people are really focused on spending money on a cheaper and “safer” cellular phone! The NPD
Group’s Mobile Phone Track study shows that mobile phone prices have been slashed down over the past year. The average prices of cell phones have been estimated to be around $85 for the first half of 2009. This was a considerable decrease from the original price of $88 from the beginning of the same year. This is a simple example of the severe fall in cell phone prices.
Wireless carriers and providers are using buy-one-get-one-free deals because of the aggressive competitive prices on the American market. Moreover there were great promotions on smartphones targeted at boosting sales but unfortunately, this really was not a success! It was a great loss with a decrease of 3.4% on the prices of smartphones. But there is good news; wireless providers have been using sharp selling strategies and heavy promotions on the latest advanced smartphones. This is a major reason for the overwhelming popularity and growth of smartphone brands. The heads of the NPD group believe that there is a radiant future for the next generation of smartphones.
Wireless carriers have been afflicted and distressed by the thousands of lay offs which arose due to the huge economic crisis in the US. These carriers are finding it harder to provide their customers with an optimum level of service and overall customer satisfaction. The WSJ (Wall Street Journal) has labeled the fierce competition between the wireless providers as being a “pricing war” which somehow seems as a diplomatic move or discreetly planned agreement on their part. Their prices are very similar to their competitors and surprisingly enough, never prevail over their “unique” rates! We can really view it as being a selling strategy, a way of attracting customers and making them buy a “cheap” and “free” cell phone! What they really have in mind, is to make each customer “unique” and use their plans to make a one-client target sale! As a matter of fact, they want to get more out of each client over a short period of time.

It’s a hard fact and you can see the same trend with large overage fees for customers who exceed the allotted minutes of texts of their cell phone plan. These unreasonable fees are usually imposed on them by their wireless carriers. They blow their customers with these hefty fees because they bring huge profits and revenues in a jiffy! In the end, customers get angry at their wireless providers. They eventually choose a more expensive mobile phone plan and most often with unlimited minutes! So, who is the real winner? Wireless carriers are because they simply love when their clients opt for an unlimited cell phone plan. The reason is they are making huge profits because the money is guaranteed and goes directly in their pockets! The customer is never bothered about his number of calls or texts again because he gets used to this “awesome and fun” plan! But there still are some savvy clients who would rather pay $10 or $20 less on their cheap restricted monthly mobile phone plan even if they have to pay extra charges in the end.
Now, the question is: Do customers still trust the American cell phone market? We can give you some reasonable answers. Up to now, customers have been startled or confused by the rapid and remarkable progress of the cellular phone and smartphone technology. They have adapted themselves with those confusing and complicated service plans and sometimes really don’t understand where they are heading!
There are various cell phone plans, over blown and complex rules so in truth they don’t know what to choose. But there’s still a bright ray of hope, as consumers are getting more familiarized and suave about the current events in the cell phone market. They are keeping up with the latest trends in cell phone technology, doing their own research and trying hard to choose the right wireless carrier! They are learning how to use their money wisely and invest their money in cell phone plans that will make them feel contended and less cheated. They want to go wow, we really did something great!
We still have a lot of expectations from the next generation of cellular phone and smartphone technology. We firmly believe and hope of having a cell phone industry where this genuine competition and not a price war. Wireless carriers and customers will entwine their forces and enjoy the bliss of this fascinating technology! Ah, genuine competition. Doesn’t that sound great? Definitely!
